Self-payer plus partial reimbursement
In Austria psychotherapy is an independent academic healthcare profession according to the psychotherapy law.
Please note, I do not have a contract with health insurances, therefore the fee note must be paid by the patient in advance. Partial reimbursement (“Kostenzuschuss”) by your health insurance is possible.
Advantages of self-pay (private-pay)
- No waiting time for your treatment
- the scope of your therapy will not be co-determined by your health insurance company
- No information about therapy-use and diagnoses will be shared with your health insurance company
Applying for partial reimbursement of therapy expenses
The required application form for reimbursement „Antrag auf Kostenzuschuss wegen Inanspruchnahme von psychotherapeutischer Behandlung“ contains a psychotherapeutic expert report.
The preparation of a psychotherapeutic expert report:
- Preparation: at the earliest after the 2nd session
- You will receive the completed form for submission one week after the order
Professional fee: 90 €
(which is also partly reimbursed, KFA excepted)
The application form I filled out must arrive for evaluation at your insurance company together with the detailed original fee notes before the 11th session. If approval is granted, all following original detailed fee notes have to be submitted to your health insurance company regularly, in order to receive the refund.
Basically, the first 10 sessions cannot be refunded, i.e. you will receive partial reimbursement (retroactively) starting from the 10th session.
To apply for partial reimbursement for the first 10 sessions as well, a medical examination before the 2nd session is needed. The corresponding written medical confirmation has to be submitted with the application form.
Amounts of reimbursement
After approval you will receive a partial refund of the therapy expenses from your insurance company.
Currently, the maximum amount of the contribution to the costs per session is:
- ÖGK – 28 €
- SVS and KFA – 28 €
- BVAEB – 40 €
The reimbursement of therapy expenses per application is limited to a certain amount of sessions within a certain period of time. Filing follow-up applications for more sessions is possible. Basically, you are entitled to long-term therapy with an average of 160 sessions.
If you apply for partial reimbursement of therapy expenses for out-patient psychotherapeutic treatment, your personal data, relevant diagnoses (in encrypted form) as well as the frequency, type and scope of therapy and the number of approved sessions will be registered with your health insurance company. This registration is not associated with ELGA (electronic health records).
For further information please contact your health insurance company.
